PROFILE

My fascination with the field of paper arts has intrigued me since childhood. Learning both Japanese and Western papermaking, experimenting and combining various techniques, has resulted in a distictive style in my work.

In 1989 I opened my art studio with an original line of handmade paper, mixed media jewelry, pieces that I continue to solely design and create individually.

My work combines handmade paper, found objects, wood, paint, pearls, stones and text to compose simple, yet elegant pieces that strive to contrast human culture in context with the environment and highlight the delicate balance and fragil nature of both.

The jewelry designs are wearable art collages. Each piece is a delicate and graceful construction contrasting the natural and manmade materials. The organic nature and balance of the materials lends a serenity to each design.

The wall pieces are sculptural collages, exploring the juxtaposition of the serene quality of organic materials with the intensity of manmade symbols. The relationships between space, form, texture and human culture contribute to the expression of this theme.

My work explores the sense of bound fragmentation that is part of our human condition. By layering, overlapping and loosely binding elements together, a subtle harmony is struck by the trapped, floating, fragmented parts. These harmonious juxtapositions between the unique forms of nature and those of the human hand are intrinsic in my work.

The samples shown here are intended to show the quality of design, balance and creativity. Each piece is individually created, incorporating natural materials, no two are exactly alike and colors vary.
